Pedro Catala, founder of Twelve Beauty, joined us instore for a natural formulation masterclass, where guests not only learnt about the Twelve Natural Skincare line and what Pedro prioritises to offer the highest quality products, but also had the opportunity to DIY natural masks, gels and oil cleansers using a selection of botanical ingredients brought in from the Twelve lab.
As a qualified cosmetologist and pharmacist with expertise in botany and the natural science of cosmetics, you can imagine the wealth of knowledge and information Pedro had to share throughout this event. His passion for active ingredients in skincare is evident and we felt super lucky to have the opportunity to absorb all the information he shared with us!

Common vs. Exotic Natural Skincare Ingredients
Pedro is a big fan of traditional, natural ingredients that have a long history of use, rather than new exotic ingredients that promise miraculous outcomes. “More common ingredients may sound less exotic but they are actually more sustainable because they grow more widely rather than, for example, just in the rainforest.”
The Importance of Key Suppliers for Twelve Natural Skincare Quality
“My preferred suppliers are paramount to my line. I will always stick with preferred suppliers to maintain the high quality of my products. If they are out of stock of a certain ingredient then I will wait until they are back in stock rather than compromising on quality… This is often the case when you see my products out of stock.”

“Jojoba Oil is not an oil but a liquid wax instead, and the closest to our skin oil, sebum. Since wax removes wax and a lot of cosmetics are made out of waxes, jojoba oil can be used as an effective makeup remover, especially around the eye.”

“The innovation about the Twelve Beauty Rapid Eye Treatment cream is that I use a huge amount of peptides and antioxidants. This combination works well with small amounts of oils. Peptides only activate themselves in oil so a very rich, buttery cream might not have the same effect on the skin.”
