Crystal infused skincare is not vanishing from the beauty industry anytime soon. If anything we have seen the rise of this trend continue, with more and more natural beauty brands harnessing crystals as an ingredient in their formulations. From ‘infusions’ to ground-up particles, crystals are here to stay. But why the fascination?

Crystals form in nature when liquids cool and start to harden into organised groups of molecules as they attempt to become stable. They have often been coined “wisdom keepers” because they hold thousands, or even millions, of the Earth’s history within them. Ancient civilisations have worked with the energy of the Earth since the beginning of time, using crystals to seek guidance, energy and clarity.

The modern philosophy of crystals  is based on traditional concepts from Asian cultures, including the Chinese concept of life-energy and the Buddhist concept of chakras – employing stones and crystals to connect the physical and spiritual elements of the body. Today, crystals are popping up everywhere from crystal infused skincare, to wellbeing and lifestyle products.

Crystal Infused Skincare

Crystals have long been used to enhance general feelings of wellbeing, but in more recent times crystal infused skincare has taken centre stage. Crushed or ground crystals are being added to natural skincare, makeup and even fragrances with the theory that they infuse these formulas with positive energies.

Crystal Skincare For Cleansing

The Tata Harper Clarifying Mask is infused with Quartz Sand Micro-Crystals that physically exfoliate and soften the look of skin. In this mask, crystals are combined with key ingredients Honey, Kaolin Clay and Willow Bark Extract along with herbal extracts and balancing oils, especially helpful to balance spot prone, oily and congested skin.

The Nazan Schnapp Regenerating Gel Cleanser with Amethyst infused helps to remove impurities from the surface of the skin and promote overall balance. Also from Nazan Schnapp, the Rinse Away Oil Cleanser with Rose Quartz is a natural cleansing oil that contains Camellia, Sacha Inchi and Rice Bran Oils infused with Rose Quartz Gemstone in each bottle. We love this range of crystal infused skincare and asked Nazan Schnapp why she chose to use crystals in her line:

“I grew up with crystals and taught myself about the crystals my mother collected. Even as a teenager, I was mesmerized by their beauty and their healing powers. The inspiration and creation of my range stemmed from the desire to fulfill my own wishes and need for natural, potent and luxurious beauty products. Incorporating crystals was just another way to create the skincare products I wanted to use.”

Crystal Skincare to Leave On

The Odacite All Embracing Serum is formulated with lightweight Watermelon Seed Oil and Hibiscus Flowers then infused with the energy of Amethyst, known for its ability to soothe and calm the mind and body. Once you’ve finished your bottle of serum, shake out the Amethyst beads and make yourself a crystal wish bracelet! Also from Odacite, treat, plump and hydrate your lips with the Aventurine Kiss Lip Treatment roller to prevent dryness and restore a natural moisture. Valerie Grandury, founder of Odacite Skincare, shares with us her personal reasons for infusing skincare with crystals:

“Crystals have been used for centuries to manifest intention, call on spiritual protection and energy healing. If we’ve learned anything from the success of our Rose Quartz Crystal Contour Gua Sha, it’s that the intersection of vibrational energy and skincare is the future of green beauty. By using Crystal stone in Odacite skincare, it will manifest more harmony, prosperity and unconditional love in your life! Both your energy and skin will thank you!”

A saviour for fatigued skin, the Amly Sleep Mist is a youth-inducing bedtime essential that aims to boost natural healing while you sleep. It is infused with Quartz Powder, which is believed to make the skin brighter and help to reduce fine lines. Spray it onto your face or around sleeping areas just before bedtime, then breathe deeply to allow the aromatic oils to stimulate your senses as you relax.  Also from Amly, use the Digital Detox Mist combats the skin-stressing and energy-zapping effects of digital, environmental and cosmic pollution. Find out from the Amly founders, Lisa and Kerry, why and how they use crystals in some of their products:

“We make extensive use of rose quartz, revered since ancient times for its anti-inflammatory properties. The holistic face mists are made from mineral-rich spring water that flows through Co-Founder Lisa Smallpeice’s organic farm. She has placed a large piece of rose quartz inside the tank where this water is collected, for its ‘calming and cleansing energy’. The crystal is also included in powder form in both the Beauty Sleep Mist – to soothe stressed and mature skin and Digital Detox Mist – to protect against radiation. This is why chunks of rose quartz are often placed near computer screens.– Lisa & Kerry, Amly Botanicals

For instant, soothing hydration the De Mamiel Dewy Facial Mist is your answer. This lightweight serum in mist form can be used as part of your daily skincare routine, harnessing the benefits of calming essential oils and infused with rose quartz powder to replenish and refresh the skin, and de-stress the mind. Remember to take a deep breath when misting to bring about a sense of peace and calm.
